Rural Roots 02: “Childhood Memories”

I must have been 6 years old when my Dad said to me, ” I am going to make you a skating rink.” I remember how excited I was, my own skating rink.Dad spent countless hours making the rink perfect. It was beautiful, the ice was smooth like butter, but the part that took my breath away was the perimeter, it was lined with hay bales. That’s right… it served a dual purpose to stop me as my speed increased and a place to rest my tired legs.

That season I spent every chance I had enjoying this amazing wonder. Till this day I always think back of the selfless act of my Dad, making the skating rink that made a memory of a lifetime for his little girl.

Rural Roots 01: “The Country is in my DNA”

Is it in your DNA to live in the country or is it a future goal to own a farm, acreage or equestrian operation.

For me personally, it’s in my DNA. I grew up on a farm in Andrew, Alberta and come from a long line of farmers, the “lovers” of the land. My land is 3 acres, with a home shop and lots of room for my gardens. It’s my safe haven, my peace and serenity, where memories are made and my tribe come to visit.

If you’re pursuing your future goal to own a farm or acreage, I encourage you to embrace the journey it will give you  more than you bargain for. Roots run deep with the place you live and does truly become part of your whole being.
